Small patch woodland/herb community on somewhat stabilized boulder bar. Away from river the vegetation grades to woodland with higher canopy cover, then forest with less cover by sun-loving forbs. Towards river there is a more abrupt transition to river edge herb community dominated by neare monoculture of Justicia americana.;Floodplain with mixed substrate of boulders, cobble, gravel, and sand with open woodland dominated by Platanus occidentalis with some Betula nigra. Herb component of sun-lovingf tall grasses, legumes, and composites. Evidence of summer flooding (laid down Baptisia australis) but no substantive alluvial deposits or scour from this summer's severe floods.

Zone of frequent high energy floods which maintains an open woodland physiognomy with herbaceous dominance.
